How to Stay Confident in Auditions (Even When You Feel Like a Hot Mess)

May 01, 2025

Ah, auditions. That magical blend of excitement, terror, and the sudden urge to question every life choice you've ever made. Sound familiar? Trust me, I’ve been there. But if there’s one thing that has carried me through (and kept me from running for the exit), it’s studying.

Confidence isn’t something you just wake up with one day—it’s built through preparation, practice, and knowing your stuff. The more you study, the more tools you have in your back pocket when that inevitable audition curveball gets thrown your way. And guess what? You’re never done learning. Even after years in this business, I still study, because every audition is a chance to get better.

Of course, we all have those experiences—the ones where you leave the booth and immediately start crafting an elaborate escape plan to a remote island. Failure happens, but it’s just part of the process. The key? Learn from it. Dust yourself off. And maybe eat a cookie. (Cookies help.)

At the end of the day, success in voiceover isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being prepared and adaptable. So keep learning, keep showing up, and for the love of all things voiceover, own your audition like you were born to do this (because you were).
